What is it?
Metatarsalgia is a painful inflammatory injury of the forefoot caused due to overuse. This condition makes us feel as if we are stepping on a stone. It is common for athletes and other sports personnel.

Causes
Few causes of Metatarsalgia are old age, intense activity or training foot deformities, stress fractures, overweight, obesity, nerve irritation, and Ill-fitting footwear.

Symptoms
Numbness, stinging, drifting of toes, stone bruise, fore foot pain, etc ate symptoms of Metatarsalgia.

Consequences if left untreated
If Metatarsalgia is left untreated it might lead to pain in other parts of the body such as low back or hip, due to limping from foot pain.

Treatment
In most cases, Metatarsalgia is treated simply by elevating the foot, using orthotics, better-fitted shoes, and resting. In severe cases, other medication will be suggested.
