What is it?
The Achilles tendon (The tissue that connects muscle and bone from calf to heel), helps you leap, walk, run, and balance. Continuous, intensive physical activity, such as running and leaping, can produce Achilles tendonitis, a painful inflammation (or tendinitis).

Types
The two types of Achilles tendinitis are Non-insertional Achilles tendinitis is more common in younger, more active people; Insertional Achilles tendinitis is not necessarily related to the activity. It affects the lower portion of the tendon as it inserts into the heel bone.

Causes
The major reasons for Achilles Tendinitis are rigorous physical activity without a proper warmup, poor fit footwear, and flat feet.

Symptoms
The indications of Achilles Tendinitis are a limited range of flexibility of legs, cramps, swelling, and discomfort in heels.

Consequences if left untreated
If Achilles Tendinitis is left untreated it can lead to Achilles Tendinosis, a degenerative condition where the tendon changes its structure and completely gets damaged.

Treatment
The treatment of Achilles Tendinitis will depend upon the severity of the condition and the basis of the patient's physical activity to get over the pain and swelling.

It is always suggested to get checked at the initial stages, where the treatment can be done either by medication or by taking rest. If the case is severe, surgery can be done to cure the alignment.

Footwear and shoes play an important role in managing the pain of achilles tendinitis.

However, before using a particular footwear one has to make sure that the shoes they use support their foot types.

Generally, there are two foot types that require different levels of support to get the best results. For instance, if your foot rolls inwards it's called pronation. If it rolls outwards, it's called supination.

We at Foot culture, first identify your foot type. Since every person's foot has varying degrees of pronation or supination, a customised footwear is required.

Then, based on your gait and foot type, we design footwear for you that will not only help you get pain relief but will also provide stability so that you no longer have trouble walking or running.
