What is it?
Corns and calluses are thickened, hardened regions of skin that form when the skin is subjected to too much pressure or friction. Corns are more common at pressure sites, such as the bottoms of the feet and the sides of the toes. They can be very uncomfortable. Calluses are painless thickenings of the outermost layer of the skin. They can form on the hands, feet, or any place there is repetitive contact

Causes
The main causes of corns or calluses are foot friction, uncomfortable shoes, going barefoot, physical hobbies, etc.

Symptoms
Pain, redness, blisters, hardened and thickened skin, and patchy and raised bumps around the skin are symptoms of Calluses or corns.

Consequences if left untreated
If corns and calluses are not treated on time, the infection will grow rapidly and result in pain while walking.

Treatment
For the diagnosis of the corns/calluses, a physical examination is done by looking at the affected skin. In most cases, the treatment is done by a non-surgical process. If the corn is very large and its infection very huge then a minor surgery can be made to remove the corn from its first place.

Dr Pawan Sadhvani is an expert orthopaedic surgeon in Secunderabad, Hyderabad. Dr Pawan Sadhvani, MBBS, MS (Orthopaedics) is specialized in Foot and Ankle. He treated thousands of patients of all ages, who are now free from foot and ankle-related issues.

If you are a person suffering from corns and calluses in your feet, Dr Pawan recommends that you change your footwear. The cause of this condition is caused by improper footwear, especially shoes that are tight-fitting, small and don't have any cushioning or arch support.

At foot culture, we have specialists who can design shoes that minimise pressure on the bottom of the foot. This can be achieved by using cushioning foam that relaxes your foot, orthotic in-soles with arch-support and ergonomic soles that facilitate comfortable foot motion.

Foot culture's orthotic shoes are bio-mechanically engineered with unique features, and customised to each foot type that are not found in any other shoe!
